1948 Dodge B1-D128 One Ton

The Dodge B1-D is a 1-ton pickup truck produced between 1948 and 1950 as part of Dodge’s B series lineup. These trucks featured the distinctive “pilot-house” cab design, which offered enhanced driver visibility and comfort. The B1-D models were equipped with a 230 cubic inch (3.8L) flathead inline-six engine, delivering reliable performance for various hauling and utility tasks. Notable design improvements included repositioning the engine forward and moving the front axle rearward on the frame, resulting in better weight distribution and a shorter wheelbase. Additionally, the cargo bed sides were raised to increase load capacity by 40%. These features made the B1-D a versatile and dependable choice for both commercial and personal use during its production years. Clarence Whitehill (1898-1983) and his wife Katherine (1898-1986) bought this truck to load hay, silage and everything else on their family farm near Atlanta, Kansas. They hauled dairy cattle on many trips to the Kansas State Fair. The truck was retired from farm work in 1968. It sat in a shed for 46 years, where it survived a devastating tornado in 1980. Grandson, James Whitehill (b. 1948), restored the truck in 2014 with assistance from Stewart Customs & Restorations in Augusta, Kansas. On loan from Rebecca (Whitehill) Lester.
