1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

The 1957 Chevrolet is widely regarded as one of the most iconic collector cars of the 1950s, and some historians consider it the most recognizable American car of the 20th century. Although Ford outsold Chevrolet that year, the ‘57 Chevy became a favorite among enthusiasts, driving its value well beyond that of its competitors. Thanks to a passionate fan base, many more ‘57 Chevys survive today than other cars from that era. The new 283-cubic-inch engine provided smooth power, and its weight distribution allowed for excellent handling. Exciting options like Rochester fuel injection, dual carburetion, Posi-Traction, and even a four-speed transmission (available after May 1) enhanced its performance. Its lower, wider stance and signature tailfins added to its visual appeal. Chevrolet had planned an all-new model for 1957, but when that wasn’t possible, General Manager Ed Cole led a significant redesign, adding a new dash, lower cowl, and a wider-looking front end. In motorsports, the ‘57 Chevy dominated NASCAR, winning 49 Grand National races—more than any car in history. It also won 26 races in the convertible class and all three possible driver’s championships. The ‘57 Chevy remains a legend, celebrated for both its performance and timeless design. On loan from Greg and Vicky Hart.
