2012 Morgan 3 Wheeler

The Morgan Motor Company, founded in 1910 by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan, is a British motor car manufacturer headquartered in Malvern, Worcestershire, United Kingdom. The history of the Morgan 3-Wheeler dates back to the company founders first single-seat three-wheeled runabout, which was fabricated for his personal use in 1908. The first two-seater went into production in 1911, and continued until bowing out in 1952. Technically classified as a motorcycle this vehicle captures the feel of an automobile, airplane and motorcycle all rolled into one. The Morgan 3-Wheeler on display at MDCC is finished in a matte green with Royal Air Force fighter plane “Shark Squadron” graphics giving the Morgan a very aggressive look. The saddle brown leather interior, wood rimmed steering wheel and fighter plane inspired gauges and switches round out the package. The background history on the fighter plane graphics dates back to WWI and a highly decorated English fighter pilot by the name of Albert Ball VC. As an original Morgan 3-wheeler owner, Ball famously surmised that driving his Morgan was the closest experience to flying without leaving the ground. In 2011 the Morgan Motor Company launched their new 3-Wheeler at the Geneva Auto Show with the first U.S. deliveries arriving in 2012. Unique to Morgan vehicles is that for over a century they have been constructed using ash wood as one of the core elements, a practice that continues today in the framing of the bodies. This latest version retains the unique and celebrated driving experience that made the original an icon, yet reimagines the technology that underpins it, updating the model to be relevant for the 21st Century. Powered by an 1800 cc S&S V-Twin engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission it produces a very respectable 115 hp and a 0-60 speed of 4.5 seconds. To quote Morgan-Motor.com “The Morgan 3 Wheeler is a rebellion against sanitised, modern motoring.” You will want to check out the 3-wheeler in person to truly capture what a fun vehicle it is!

About the Morgan Motor Company

The Morgan Motor Company is an independent and family-owned motor car manufacturer that was originally conceived in 1910 by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan. Coincidentally, The Midwest Dream Car Collection was also founded by a man named Stanley Morgan—although most of us know him as Ward. Currently, the Morgan Motor Company is located in Worcestershire, England, and employs 177 people in its factory. With a waiting list of six months to ten years, these cars are tough to acquire, which is a true mark of a great car and company.

With a real passion for grand touring and automotive heritage, the Morgan Motor Company has created cars for over 100 years. One of the company’s most prominent features is the use of handcrafted ash wood in the body frame of all its cars to date. According to the Morgan Motor Company, the ash acts “as a structure from which the exterior aluminum body panels and interior leather work are hung. Every Morgan is expertly handcrafted using three core elements: ash, aluminum and leather. By pushing the boundaries of how long-established techniques can be applied, each Morgan car celebrates traditional manufacture while embracing modern design.”

Passing from generation to generation in the Morgan family, the Morgan Motor Company has continuously provided a charming and extensive heritage in the automotive world: “The Morgan Classic Range continues to be the most popular model within the Morgan range—with models including the 4/4, the Plus 4, the Roadster and the Plus 8, which is an exhilarating cross-over between the Classic and Aero Ranges.” An iconic and interesting touch from all Morgan models is their unique styling, which matches that of a very small-frame 1930s automobile.
