Visitor Services and Event Assistant

The Visitor Services and Event Assistant supports the museum’s mission by ensuring exceptional guest experiences and assisting in the successful planning and execution of museum events. This role involves coordinating front-of-house operations, working collaboratively with staff and volunteers, and helping to implement engaging programs and memorable events that bring the museum to life. “This is not a typical 9–5 job — some evening and weekend availability is essential to support our calendar of public and private events.”

Guest Experience & Visitor Services

  • Deliver warm, engaging, and professional service to all museum guests.
    • Serve as a backup for front desk operations when needed, including processing admissions, memberships, and gift shop sales.
    • Help manage guest traffic flow and ensure a clean, welcoming environment.
    • Support the training and oversight of volunteers and part-time front-line staff.
    • Respond promptly and professionally to visitor inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.

Event & Program Coordination

  • Assist in planning, setting up, and tearing down events, including public programs, private rentals, and museum-sponsored events.
    • Communicate with vendors, caterers, and community partners to ensure smooth execution.
    • Maintain event checklists and timelines to ensure all logistics are accounted for.
    • Support promotion and execution of educational and community programming.

Front Desk Agent

This part-time position primarily focuses on visitor services and assists with retail sales and special events. MUST have availability Thursday – Sunday and some evenings.
  • Welcome visitors and orient them to the facility
  • Perform cash and credit card transactions
  • Answer the telephone and direct calls
  • Address visitor questions and concerns with empathy and insight
  • Monitor reception and gallery areas, promoting etiquette among visitors as needed
  • Opening and closing duties: trash removal, balancing cash drawer, light cleaning, plant maintenance, etc
  • Process retail sales, returns, exchanges & refunds
  • Maintain retail display area
  • Maintain desk cleanliness and organization
  • Other duties as assigned to assist with Museum operations and programming
