1928 Oakland All-American Six Coupe – “Larry’s Car”
This 1928 Oakland was generously donated to the museum by the family of Larry Schall in his memory. Affectionately known as “Larry,” the car is open for children and visitors to sit in, pretend to drive, and simply enjoy—just as Larry would have wanted. As the museum’s first volunteer docent, Larry had a passion for sharing the joy of automobiles with young people.
The Oakland All-American Six Coupe, produced by the Oakland Motor Car Company—a division of General Motors—featured a 212-cubic-inch inline-six engine with about 60 horsepower. Positioned as a mid-tier brand, Oakland offered advanced features like four-wheel mechanical brakes and a comfortable, enclosed cabin at an affordable price. With its sleek design and chrome accents, the 1928 model reflected the growing emphasis on style in American cars.
One of the last models produced before Oakland evolved into Pontiac, this coupe stands as a rare and meaningful piece of automotive history—celebrated not only for its craftsmanship but also for the legacy of the man whose name it carries.
