1955 Mini-Divco
Divco (Detroit Industrial Vehicle Company) began producing delivery trucks in 1926, primarily for dairy and home delivery services. Known for their boxy shape and ability to be driven standing or sitting, Divcos became an American icon, remaining in production with minimal changes until 1986—one of the longest-running vehicle designs in U.S. history. This vehicle is a 1955 Mini-Divco. It was manufactured by the Robel Corporation in Berwick, Pennsylvania. The original power unit was a 1 ¾ horse Briggs & Stratton engine. It was originally purchased in 1955 by the Alexander Brothers’ Baking Company doing business as ButterKrust bread in Topeka, Kansas. They used it for parades, store displays and carnivals all around the Topeka area. In 1967 the company finished using it as a promotional device and decided to give it away to their Driver of the Year. From there it went through several owners. The current owners are Danny & Becky Downs. Danny purchased and did the original green & cream restoration in 1995 for his daughter. The second restoration was done in 2019, and the current color scheme was chosen to reflect its Topeka heritage and history.
